Larry Thomas has paid his dues. He retired in 2021 after working almost 50 years with Edward Jones and becoming one of its first minority partners. He began as an intern in 1977 and was immediately hired after he graduated from Washington University. He then rose through the ranks with multiple promotions. Education
The Salute to Excellence in Education Scholarship & Awards Gala recognizes outstanding local Black educators and provides needed resources for high-achieving students of color to pursue their higher education goals.
Health Care
The Salute to Excellence in Health Care honors outstanding performances in health care for the African-American community in St. Louis.
Young Leaders
The Salute to Young Leaders Networking Awards Reception celebrates African-American professionals under the age 40.
Business
The Salute to Excellence in Business Awards and Networking Luncheon highlights African-American corporate managers and businesses.
Proceeds from the St. Louis American Foundation‘s 4 annual Salute to Excellence events benefit community grants as well as scholarships for local minority students. In 2022 alone, the foundation and its partners offered $2.8 million in scholarships and community grants, and has fostered more than $15 million since 1994.
